THE CHALLENGE

One permit system for a site in transition

Olympia is a heritage West London exhibition centre currently undergoing a £1.3bn transformation into the capital's newest destination for leisure and entertainment. As part of this, Olympia required a comprehensive digital Permit to Work system to provide worker safety compliance from practical completion, through occupier fitout to day-to-day operations. With the principal contractor delivering the redevelopment across seven new buildings, the project needed a state-of-the-art permit system that could coordinate multiple contractors while maintaining operational exhibition spaces.
The challenge was implementing a proven digital solution for a phased introduction as different buildings reached practical completion, ensuring all contractors could seamlessly access and onboard the system, and delivering modern software architecture that could scale with the project's ambitious scope.
THE SOLUTION

Lite touch, phased and built to scale

Olympia partnered with TAP to implement a lite touch, but comprehensive digital permit solution designed for integrated post construction and operational projects. The system was engineered to accommodate the project's unique requirements:

Modern technology

Built using cutting-edge software architecture, the platform ensured robust performance across the complex multi-building site with scalability essential for the extensive transition programme.

Phased implementation

Recognising the development's staged completion timeline, the permit system incorporated flexible deployment capabilities that could be activated and customised as each building phase reached practical completion.

Advanced coordination

The system provided real-time visibility of all works, ensuring seamless coordination between the end of programme activities, fitting out activities and ongoing exhibitions while the venue continued operating throughout the redevelopment.

Intelligent Stacking Plans

TAP's unique Stacking Plan technology identifies individual areas within 2D building plans as Tenanted, Vacant, and Accessible Areas. This sophisticated mapping automatically integrates hazards into permit documentation, providing contractors with critical real-time safety information.
